Apple and Eminem Settle 4 Year Dispute

For over four years, Apple and Eminem have been at odds with each over an alleged copyright infringement on 93 of the singers tracks that were sold on iTunes. As we reported last week, the case was to head to trial should the parties fail to reach an agreement.

The case did proceed to trial in a Michigan federal court, and since has seen five days of heated and contradictory testimony from both sides. Apple’s attorney, Glenn Pomerantz painted Eminem and Eight Mile Style LLC as greedy, with the opposition claiming that Apple profited by at least $2.5 million in wrongful downloads.

Today, however, Yahoo News is reporting that Apple and Eight Mile have somehow managed to reach an agreement. Though the financial details have yet to be disclosed, the lawsuit has been “settled to the satisfaction of all parties,” according to an Eight Mile attorney.

Given the four year delay, we have to wonder if there was a smoking gun in the case, or if Apple and Aftermath, the two accused parties, simply decided that it was better to cut their loses and pay up. Either way, we have to believe that the terms of the settlement are more favorable to Enimem and Eight Mile, with a pretty big payout for those 93 disputed tracks.

We’ll update this post should the financial terms of the deal be disclosed. But, what’s your take on the case? Does the rushed settlement at trial indicate that Apple and Aftermath were in the wrong? Let us know your thoughts.

Eminem Gets Some Ass at the VMAs

Dressed in a pair of feathery white wings with his rear end mostly exposed, the comedian crashed into an overhead obstacle and was lowered directly into Eminem's lap in the audience, his hindquarters in the rapper's face.

"Is the real Slim Shady about to stand up?" chirped Bruno.

Eminem seemed visibly upset by the encounter and members of his entourage roughly removed Baron Cohen as Eminem struggled to get out. But it was unclear if Bruno and MTV wound up the rapper, or if he in on the elaborate joke.

Eminem acted visibly upset at the mishap, saying: "Get this (expletive) off me" and turning his face away in disgust. He then stormed out with his entourage in tow - and cameras rolling - and beat a path for the exits.

Bruno's descent to the audience was included in earlier rehearsals, but Eminem did not take part in that piece of the run-through.

As the rapper stormed off it sounded as though he was wearing a microphone, and cameras were in position to record his fast exit, but he was not seen or heard from again.

The rapper had earlier performed a medley of two tracks from his latest album Relapse.

Eminem Scraps New Album

Rapper Eminem has scrapped the majority of material for his comeback album - because it's not "current" enough.

The Without Me hitmaker has been working on tracks for his follow up to 2004's Encore since last year (07), but his pal 50 Cent reveals the star has chosen to start from scratch to ensure his album is as new and relevant as possible.

He says, "A lot of material he wrote prior to this announcement (of the new album) is being scrapped. He's got to feel like it's just happened, it's new and it's current. That's just how he is creatively as an artist."

But the In Da Club rapper insists fans of Eminem won't have long to wait to hear the final results, although a release date has yet to be set."

50 Cent adds, "You'll be seeing him shortly. He's working. I spent the weekend at his house. Even though he tries to relax and stay home it's impossible for him to stay in." (MT/WNWCNM/IG)
